My 2007 Buick LaCrosse, 3.8L V6 headlights turn themselves off at night, while I am driving. The bright lights stay on. The headlights do return after a few minutes but I do nothing to help. It is like magic. I know this sounds crazy but it’s happened twice now.

Answer: Body control module may be the issue. I suggest you to have a shop check for codes in the BCM.

  1. I have the same problem with my 2007 Lacrosse. Headlights turn off by themselves while driving. They are set to auto. I decided to try a few different things to collect some data. I had it into the dealership two to three different times last summer to fix the issue, but because they couldn’t duplicate the problem, it was never resolved. I had no problems throughout the fall, winter, or spring, but now that summer is back, they’re shutting off again. They won’t even come on manually when this happens. Sometimes, they’re off for a few seconds, sometimes a few minutes. I thought it had something to do with the air conditioning running, but come to find out it does it with or without running the air. It also happens at various speeds, so that seems to not be a factor either. It is incredibly unsafe, especially when it’s dark and your driving on the highway. I can flick my highbeams on and all the other lights stay on. Its only the headlights. I have read online that many people have had this problem and had the BCM replaced with no success in fixing the problem. I have been told to try the exterior lighting relay.
